Reviewing Your Plan for Giving
(Part of a series of articles on charitable giving and the Union County Foundation
by David Vollrath - Executive Director)
Our recent articles have discussed how the beginning of a new calendar year is a wonderful time to perform a series
of check-ups on your finances and estate plan. This week I’d like to encourage you to perform a "new-year
checkup" on your "giving plan."
Your plan for charitable giving is an important part of your overall financial situation and therefore deserves
some thoughtful consideration and planning. Have you thought about your plan for charitable giving in 2004? Most
of us over time have made gifts to a number of different charities both on a local and national level. As donors,
each of us should annually think about the charities we chose to support and evaluate the charitable purpose of
each.
Charities are generally more than pleased to provide information to the general public regarding their organizations.
Most charities by this time in the year have developed specific plans for their 2004 activities, services, and
projects. Many of you may have already received mailings from your favorite charities keeping you apprised of activities.
If you have not received information a wonderful resource and planning tool can be your charity’s web site. In
today’s high tech world nearly all charitable organizations have their own web sites that offer a wealth of information
covering all aspects of charitable activity. If you don’t know your favorite charity’s web site address you can
easily access their site through free Internet search engines such as google.com or yahoo.com. Simply key-in the
name of the charity you are searching for and the search engine will find the site for you. For example if you
input Union County Foundation into the google.com search engine it will take you to our web site.
We encourage you to take the time to keep up to date with the charities you support. Make sure your charitable
goals continue to be compatible with the organizations you have selected. Charitable giving should be an important
part of our financial lives. Take pause at the beginning of the year to consider how best to fulfill your charitable
inclinations. There is no time like the present to turn your charitable dreams into a meaningful plan of action.
The Union County Foundation is equipped to help you achieve your charitable goals by providing as a free service
pertinent information, charitable life income plans, and assistance with planned giving and estate planning. Please
