Have You Ever Been Asked?
(Part of a series of articles on charitable giving and the Union County Foundation
by David Vollrath - Exec. Dir.)
If a question is never asked, it is seldom considered and likely destined to remain
unanswered. Recently I realized that many of us who call Union County home have probably never been asked to consider
establishing or leaving a charitable legacy. Many of us have never been asked to contemplate how we might leave
a charitable footprint in time that would help the future to have a chance of being better than the past. Most
of us are so busy living in the present that we just don't take time to consider the future. If only asked I think
many of us would take the time.
For those of you who have never been asked, here it is ... Have you ever considered leaving some form of charitable
legacy? I can't think of anything much more important and purposeful than knowing that you could reach into
tomorrow and positively impact the future. One of the wonderful benefits I've experienced as director of the Community
Foundation is getting to see the inner happiness in people when they as families and individuals make a decision
to leave a charitable legacy. When people unselfishly direct a piece of their estate (large or small) into a scholarship
fund or a donor advised fund the contentment they experience is deep and genuine. Memorializing the memory of a
loved one through a charitable act is especially meaningful. There is a special satisfaction donors feel in knowing
that they have helped to make a positive difference in our County. All things considered I don't think you could
make a better investment.
Too often when people do come to realize that they want to initiate some sort of charitable
legacy they get discouraged by thinking it's just too complicated and expensive. The Union County Foundation exists
to help individuals, families, and organizations to fulfill their charitable goals. The process is very easy and
generally provided cost free. If you think you might want to consider leaving your charitable footprint in time
we would like to help you accomplish that goal. If you have a cause that is important to you or your family we
can help you support that specific area or tailor a broader plan to match your wishes. The bottom line is if you
have a charitable dream we are here to help you make that dream a reality.
The Union County Foundation encourages you to consider your present and future charitable goals. The Foundation
is equipped to help you achieve these goals by providing: planned giving and estate planning resource information,
